Dear OS'ers, SL'ers and QNAP'ers,
Q-Sims
NOTE : Q-Sims runs on x86 NAS.
There is still an ODE lib issue to solve for x19 NAS.
Q-Sims - Quick-Sims is intended to provide a Mevaterses* Starter Kit for QNAP SOHO servers
* stands for meta-universes or virtual worlds like in Second life or MMORPG.
With the recent expansion of the Serious games, the metaverses have found a new application in addition to the online games and social networks.
[FOREWORD]
The Q-Sims project started on April 26th, 09 (https://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?f=4 ... 82&start=0).
On Sep 10th, 09, we have released the Q-Sims project fo QNAP x86 platform ONLY.
Wikies about Q-Sims are available at http://wiki.qnap.com/wiki/Q-Sims_-_The_ ... s_for_QNAP
[ALPHA RELEASE - Beta testers]
Q-Sims is Alphahttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle status (because OpenSim, the metavers simulator, is still in Alpha status) but has reached a good level of maturity (see note below).
[Host your own Sims on your QNAP NAS]
Q-Sims LITE Edition will help you to setup your own Sims (made of one or more regions) and to connect it to a larger metavers (virtual world) using a Free Public grid such as OSGrid which already gathers more than 2,500 regions with 4,000 active users and about 25,000 accounts!
You may wonder what to do with a metavers! - see also the wikies -
They are already widely used in MMORPG and Social Networking but there are numerous applications not to mention the new ones that you will invent unleashing your creativity.
The latter is the reason why I started the Q-Sims project to make available a Mevaterses Starter Kit for QNAP SOHO servers.
More snapshots available here
The metaverses can be used for the creation and development of future web based applications including but not limited to:

[TROUBLESHOOTING]
- Q-Sims requires IPKG (Optware) to install screen and p7zip modules.
- Shall you have trouble to upgrade, save the backup folder created by Q-Sims to keep all your user files and proceed with a fresh reinstallation. Copy back the bin contents, the regions folders under bin and the settings folder into web/sqm_lite/settings. Copy the lastest version of your database under bin.
- Q-Sims fails to start with F/W version above 3.4.x. QNAP made some trials using /share/home/ user's directories. Create the appropriate directory with mkdir -p /share/homes/admin/.wapi/, Stop and restart Q-Sims.
