In short: we run this forum out of passion and provide it free of charge, "as is". You are responsible for what you write. Commands from advice here are executed at your own risk — backup first. Behave like a decent human being and you'll enjoy it here. Those who can't — are out.

Terms and rules

1. General provisions

The QNAP Forum (forum.qnap.net.pl) is a non-commercial community project, run out of passion and maintained by volunteers. Using the service — including merely reading it — means you accept these terms. Use is free of charge. An account on this forum is not your right but a privilege, and it can be lost.

2. Account

You must be at least 13 years old to register. The rule is: one person — one account. Duplicate accounts are removed and their owners banned. You are responsible for everything done from your account — protect your password and do not share the account with others.

3. Your content — your responsibility

You bear full and sole legal responsibility for the content you publish. Publishing unlawful content is prohibited, in particular: defamatory, abusive or hateful content, threats, spam, adult content, third parties' personal data, material infringing copyright, pirated software, methods of circumventing licences or protections, and any content encouraging unlawful activity.

By publishing content you grant the forum a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual licence to store, display and make it available within the service. Copyright stays with you. After account deletion your posts remain on the forum in anonymised form — they are part of discussions and of a knowledge base that cannot be torn apart piece by piece.

4. Our role and liability

We provide a hosting service for user-generated content within the meaning of the applicable e-commerce legislation and the EU Digital Services Act (DSA). We are not liable for content published by users. We moderate the forum in good faith and make every effort to correct erroneous or harmful information — but voluntary moderation does not make us the author or guarantor of other people's statements.

If you believe any content violates the law or your rights — use the "Report" button next to the post or the contact form. Upon receiving a credible notice we will review it promptly and, where justified, remove or block the content.

5. The forum runs "as is"

The service is provided "as is" — with no warranty of uninterrupted availability, completeness or accuracy of content. Forum content is for information purposes only and represents an exchange of experience between hobbyists and professionals — it is not professional advice and does not replace the manufacturer's documentation or QNAP technical support.

6. You run commands at your own risk

This forum is about servers, RAID arrays, file systems, disks and firmware. Careless execution of a command found here can irreversibly destroy your data. Before you run anything: make a backup, read the whole discussion to the end and make sure you understand what you are doing. You apply all advice solely at your own risk — neither the forum nor the authors of posts are liable for the consequences, including data loss.

7. Moderation and sanctions

The forum staff may edit, move, close and delete any content without stating a reason. Violations of these terms and the netiquette result — depending on severity and recidivism — in a warning, restriction of account features or a permanent ban. Sanctions are decided by the staff at their own discretion. You may appeal a decision once, via private message or the contact form. Publicly contesting moderation decisions in threads is itself a violation of these terms.

All content you submit may be reviewed by the forum staff — do not submit through the forum anything you consider confidential.

8. Using forum content outside the forum

Quoting excerpts of forum content is allowed only with attribution and an active link to the thread. The following are prohibited without our prior express permission: automated bulk downloading of content (scraping), republishing entire threads or sections, and using forum content to train artificial intelligence models.

9. Final provisions

These terms may be changed at any time; significant changes will be announced, and continued use of the service means acceptance of the changes. Matters not regulated here are governed by Polish law. If any provision proves invalid, the remaining ones stay in force. If you do not accept these terms — simply do not use the service.

Netiquette and rules

How to communicate on this forum properly.

Attention!
These rules are not decoration. Ignoring them will be punished with content removal, and repeated violations — with a permanent ban from reading and participating in forum discussions. Keep yourself in check.

1. Topics

  1. Stay on topic. People in a discussion expect replies related to the subject of the thread.
  2. Post in the correct section. Read the short section description before starting a discussion.
  3. Title your thread properly. Make the title say what the discussion is actually about. "HELP!!!" is not a title.
  4. One problem = one thread. Do not hijack existing discussions with your own question. Join ongoing discussions only to address the topic set by the author. No leniency on this one!
  5. When replying, make sure your reply relates to the topic. Off-topic drift turns the forum into a chaotic information dump.
  6. Search before you ask! Someone has most likely already solved your problem here. Use the search engine before you write.
  7. Never post repeated or near-identical content. Flooding and SPAM get banned on sight.
  8. State your question precisely! Describe your environment exactly: network type and speed, server model, firmware version, your PC's operating system, what exactly happens and what you have already tried. This shortens the road to a concrete answer.
  9. Questions like "my server is slow, help!" with zero details annoy everyone and will get no answer. Specifics or nothing.
  10. Do not post nonsense, "solutions" adding nothing, claims unsupported by experience, fake news or any disinformation — intentional or not.
  11. Do not mindlessly paste AI-generated answers as your own. If you don't understand the command a chatbot suggested, don't recommend it — on this forum, advice comes from people who know what they are doing.
  12. Do not post other people's personal data or logs containing passwords, keys or serial numbers — and redact your own too.
  13. Keep your frustrations out of your questions. Are you expecting an answer or a therapist?
  14. Courtesy requires thanking for answers received. When the problem is solved — come back, write what helped and mark the thread as Solved. Dead, abandoned threads speak of your ignorance — don't expect answers to your next questions.
  15. Messages like "I want this and that" and endlessly repeating unanswered questions are exceptionally rude. Entitled, aggressive or vulgar demands for help lead straight to a banned account.
  16. Leave hate, spite and mood venting outside the forum. There is no room for it here.
  17. Do not question the seemingly strict policy and rules in force here. They exist solely so you can easily find concrete solutions in a readable knowledge base.

2. Writing posts

  1. When creating a new thread choose the correct prefix:
    • Pomoc (Help) — if you are looking for help,
    • Rozwiązany (Solved) — once your issue has been addressed and properly answered,
    • Download — if you intend to share specific software.
    • Note! The Jak to zrobić? (How-to) prefix is NOT for asking questions(!) — it marks guides and tutorials.
    • And FAQ means a set of frequently asked questions with answers.
  2. Always use the preview before submitting.
  3. Format your content for maximum readability. But remember — this is not a tuning show: no fancy fonts, colours or sizes. Highlight only short, genuinely important fragments.
  4. When replying, do not quote the whole post — keep only the fragment you are addressing.
  5. Quoting a post just to add "I agree" or "me too" — or, in the worst case, an advertisement — is condemnable.
  6. On the other hand, do not avoid quoting altogether — it is often essential for making clear what your comment refers to.
  7. Interleaving quoted fragments with your replies is good practice. Select the text and press the Quote button.
  8. Any...
    • logs, text files and quotations go into [quote] [/quote] tags,
    • logs containing commands or source code — into [code] [/code] tags,
    • and short inline commands — into the [icode] [/icode] tag.

3. Uploading files and images

  1. Use attachments for binary files and photos.
  2. Crop your screenshots to the relevant area before pasting. (If you can't handle Paint, a server is not for you!)
  3. Place thumbnails of uploaded images where you mention them.
  4. Zip large text files (over 10,000 bytes) and treat them as binary. (RAR and 7zip are not universal archive formats.)
  5. When pointing others to resources on the web, always give the full address.

4. Other

  1. Be patient! People help you in their free time and out of goodwill. Nobody here is on a payroll.
  2. Take your private grudges and enlightened-architect ambitions outside our forum... or better, nowhere. Nothing is more embarrassing than a chorus of publicly whining would-be engineers.
