Symptoms

• Excessive HDD Activity when downloading torrents

Cause
This is a known issue, but it is not caused by Rtorrent itself. This may be because your volume is fragmented (the reverse process of disk defragmentation)


Resolution
There are two solution depends on what your needs.

• if your maximum download bandwidth is limited to 1Gbit/s you can simply disable "Preallocate files" from the rtorrent settings:
  
  
  
  
  
• however if your download ISP link is better than 1Gbit, eg. 2Gbit, 10Gbit or maybe more, then make sure to have enough space on disks

Notice & Advise
Please always keep at least 20% free space on your disks.
