Release date:
2008/11/19
Revision, Build:
2.1.2 Build 1112
[Announcement]
Recently we have received many feedbacks from our customers who were experiencing some troubles while running Seagate (ST31500341AS with SD15, 17 or 18) 1.5TB hard drive(s) on the QNAP NAS, such as randomly pause or hang for around 30 seconds at a time during certain write operations.
According to our investigation, this randomly freezing will also lead to losing the existing RAID configuration. Besides, we’ve also found that this drive seems to have the same issues on many different machines and operating systems. Here is the statement from Seagate on TechReport.com which were posted on Nov. 10, 2008 (http://techreport.com/discussions.x/15863). Seagate has stated that they have noticed this and are working on an upgradeable firmware to resolve it.
In order to solve this problem for all the QNAP users before we can actually have the solution from Seagate, QNAP now provides our customers a special edition firmware, which is based on the latest official release (v2.1.2 build1031) with Seagate ST31500341AS (SD15, 17 and 18) 1.5TB hard drive write cache disabled. This should be able to fix the problem, but you might also experience some performance drop.
